Patricia Crump, Founder
Patricia Crump founded SOS in 1998 with the vision of providing young opera singers with opportunities and financial support to help maximize their career potential. Through the course of the last 26 years, this financial support has been extended to include organizations that provide young singers with performance opportunities.
Pat began her career as a vocal music teacher in the Waupun public school system. She taught privately at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, at home, and became the head of the Voice Department of Carroll College (now University). In all, she taught private singing lessons for 30 years and her greatest joy is following the successful music careers of many of her students. She was the Director of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the Wisconsin District for 30 years and served as Director Emerita for another 10.
Part of Mrs. Crump's life work has also been helping artists and arts organizations through her years of active service. She has been the Past President of the Wisconsin Chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing, the MacDowell Club of Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, among others. In the past she also served on the boards of Milwaukee Civic Music Association, Advisory Board of the Florentine Opera, Piano Arts, Milwaukee Symphony Women's League, Florentine Opera Club and Sunset Playhouse, in addition to others.
Pat continues her active service through many professional affiliations: Civic Music Association, Frankly Music Board, Milwaukee Art Museum-Docent Emerita, Metropolitan Opera National Council Wisconsin Auditions Committee, and as Vice-President of Supports of Opera Singers, Inc.
Pat was named Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee in 1999.
She lives at East Castle in Milwaukee with her husband Phil, who has been a long time supporter of her teaching, and a worker for both the Met Auditions and SOS.
